SEO Textwriter
Freelance work for LGX B.V.The internet content quantity is expanding everyday. However, it is the quality of the content that really matters. The SEO TextWriter will help writers to optimize their SEO-content. By giving suggestions, validations or ratings on the user’s input the app enhances their texts. Hence, their writings will get a better position on the google rankings.
LGX, an energetic startup approached me to spice up their proof of concept and to design a market ready application. In this project I was responsible for the UI and UX design of the SEO Textwriter app. Through an iterative design process, I was able to initiate new ideas to fine-tune the design and optimize the app's functionalities.
Process & Activities
The input of the project was a logo (which I also tweaked a bit), a working POC and the requirement to improve it's user experience in terms of usage, features and look & feel.
Through various iterations - designing and evaluating prototypes - focussing on the core needs of the writers and the clients the application design evolved from a SEO Textwriter application to a marketplace where clients hire the best SEO writers for writing their online content.
The following points were included to achieve this:
Research, customer insights and ideation
I got to experience the SEO tool, and partnered up with the project managers and a key user to uncover insights. Then I've translated concepts into features that address customer behaviours and motivations. I used my prototype skills to quickly set up low-fi mockups to present ideas and spark new ideas among the team.
Less is more
Although a lot of ideas and features were discussed, it is important to be realistic and not to be afraid of 'killing my own darlings'. In the design I made a distinction between 'MVP' features and NTH/Future features to focus on the core needs. This creates a better understanding among business and development of how the application can develop in the future.
Open communication
Eventually, to work in a most efficient way I am direct in a formal way to my colleagues. If I see a hiccup I will tell my team members about it and try to solve it directly with them. Hence, to avoid problems later on in the process.
Martijn is the UX expert as I expect a software user interface designer to be in the most ideal situation. Martijn makes sure he first truly understands the functional needs and wishes by asking all needed questions, and will come back after a little while with an excellent design that will exceed expectations in terms of graceful added functional details you did not think of, and modern, slick styling.- Onno @Comparrot
